Make This Weekend Count

Things to Do This Week — August 19-25, 2026

We're in that golden stretch of late summer where the evenings stay warm, the mountains hold onto the light a little longer, and the North Shore feels like it's showing off. School's not back yet, the seawall is buzzing, and there's a real end-of-summer energy in the air — the kind that makes you want to be outside every single evening. Here's what caught my eye for the week ahead, from a new pizza spot on Lonsdale to one of the best Friday nights our waterfront has to offer.

🍽️ New & Notable — Food + Drink
The big one for pizza lovers: Ignite Pizzeria is opening its newest location right on Lonsdale, in the Beasley Block. Their Neapolitan-style pies have a loyal following across the region, and having one this close to home is very good news for weeknight dinners. Coffee fans, keep an eye out too — Forecast Coffee is settling in around 17th and Lonsdale, adding one more reason to make Central Lonsdale your morning stop. And if you haven't been down to the Lonsdale Quay Food Hall since its refresh, it's worth a wander — the reimagined space runs from fried chicken to Asian comfort food to an artisanal yogurt counter, anchored by a proper bar.

🎉 Events & Entertainment
Friday night, the Shipyards Night Market is back in Shipbuilders' Square in Lower Lonsdale, running 3 to 10 p.m. (August 21). It's my favourite way to close out a summer week — artisan vendors, food trucks, live music, and a beer garden with the downtown skyline glowing across the water. Come hungry and stay for the sunset.
Across the inlet, the PNE Fair throws open its gates Saturday (August 22) at Hastings Park, kicking off its late-summer run through Labour Day. Playland rides, the SuperDogs, mini donuts, and the Summer Night Concert series — it's a Vancouver rite of passage and a guaranteed good day out with the family.

🌿 Outdoors & Active
With weather this good, get out to Deep Cove while you can. The Quarry Rock hike is a manageable 3.8 km round trip that rewards you with sweeping views over Indian Arm — go early to beat the crowds and the parking crunch. Not in a climbing mood? Rent a kayak or paddleboard right at the waterfront and glide out onto the arm, then reward yourself with a stroll through the village. It's hard to believe this kind of wilderness sits 30 minutes from downtown.

🎟️ Also Worth a Look
If you're a soccer fan, the Whitecaps host FC Dallas at BC Place on Saturday (August 22) — a fun, energetic night out just a SeaBus ride away.

🏡 Community Corner
It's a good stretch for Lower Lonsdale, with new food and coffee spots continuing to fill in the neighbourhood and the Shipyards district drawing steady weekend crowds. That gentle build-up of local businesses is exactly what makes this pocket of the North Shore feel more alive every season — worth supporting the new arrivals while they find their feet.

This is the North Shore at its best: mountains, market nights, fresh pizza, and the ocean right there at the bottom of the hill. Weeks like this are a good reminder of why so many of us are lucky to call this place home. Get out, explore a little, and support a local spot or two — and if you spot something great I missed, send it my way.
